June 7th, 2008 - Bardstown

Bardstown has always been an intriguing place for me, an old little town with a lot of history and a lot of so called haunted places.  Also The Jailer's Inn ranks up there among haunted places, # 9 of the top 10 Travel Channel's Most Haunted.  I think everyone should check it out.  Also while your there, go on a Saturday, after June 7th to November and check out Patti Starr's Ghost Walk / Hunt.  If you don't know Patti Starr, you are really missing out, she's a great entertainer, talker and teacher of the paranormal and she does a great walk/hunt/trek of Bardstown.  Also her husband, Mr. Patti Starr (this is what he goes by, so he says, but you can call him Chuck) is great to talk to about paranormal.  These guys have been ghost hunting for awhile and run the Ghost Chasers International based out of Lexington.  They also run a ghost hunting shop, the only one I know of in Kentucky, that you can get in a car and drive to and buy something from.  I got several books and an EMF meter from there, so check them out some time.  These are also putting on Scarefest, that'll be a great treat to go to in September. In my opinion these guys are really doing Kentucky good in the field of paranormal.

But anyway, the Starr's tell us if we get 15 people minimum they can do a private ghost trek of Bardstown at anytime they are available.  After we talk about it, we think we can get 15 people. So I go ahead and book 15 people in March of this year for what I thought was a private tour on June 7th. Well, come to find out, this is the first day, they start doing the public ghost walks. And the way over 15 people we thought we had, kept dwindling down and we ended up only having 8 people. But the Starr's refunded my money for the other 7 people, like I said earlier, these guys are really super nice people, they probably could have kept the money if they wanted to, but they didn't.  But anyway we ended up having 8 people and those 8 were, myself, Chris Dooley, Dale and Becky Young, Greg Carpenter, Stacy Loveless, Teri Keiter, Anita Shehan and Dylan Dooley (my son).

We know this is just a ghost walk, but we wanted to do this to get a better feel of Bardstown and kind of use this has a springboard for further places to go in that town, like Jailer's Inn and The Talbott Tavern. Also I just wanted to do this because Patti Starr is doing the tour and I would like to just see the ghost walk/hunt/trek for myself. But anyway, a lot of other people are also in the group, like 35 people, but this really doesn't distract from it and doesn't really cause any problems. But the temperature was in the 90s and this made it really hot for 35 people to stand close together.

I am not go into minute details, you just need to go yourself, but we start at the Jailer's Inn. Patti tells some stories of her personal experience and gives some historic information, that lasts about 15 minutes about the Jailer's Inn and then we proceed to the Talbott Tavern, which is right next door. I was surprised about how close the 2 places were. She talks about the Tavern (historically and paranormally), for like 15 minutes and we head for the, what I believed is called The Chapeze House, the guy that had the house built. This house is a small two story house, old and brick. Rumor had it, we was suppose to go in, but there was a wedding reception going on inside the building, so we didn't go in. But she does tell us that this place used to be the welcome center. The welcome center is now in the center of town in the old courthouse building, it is a nice looking old building with some good characteristics, it looks like it could be haunted. But at the Chapeze house, she tells us about the paranormal and historical stories about the building and the guy who had built the house. Again we are here about 15 minutes.

We then make way for the Pioneer Cemetery which is directly behind the Jailer's Inn. It is now about 9pm and it is starting to get dark. But at the cemetery, she probably spends about 10 minutes, explaining ghost hunting techniques and describing the cemetery and the history. We then have around 15 minutes of free reign of the cemetery. Patti is trying to get the spirits to show themselves, but we kind of go our own way, looking back every so often to see if anything is happening. We take a lot of pictures and as usual I have audio recording the whole time, you never know when you are going to get an EVP. A lot of the pictures I took came out weird, but I'll post them later. The people around Patti came out with weird looking pics, also. I am not going to say it is paranormal, but who knows. We then head upstairs of The Talbott Tavern, in like a meeting room, I can't remember the name of the room, though.

Upstairs of the Tavern, with everyone seated, Patti shows off her use of a cell sensor meter (another EMF meter, but with a needle and red light on top that flashes when the meter registers something), we are going to get one, because they are pretty cool. She asks if any spirits are with us, and the meter flashes red, off and on. She then asks the spirits to tell us how many spirits are in the room with us, 1 flash per spirit she says. We then get 5 flashes, Patti said they usually get 6 in that room. She then asks another question and then the meter goes dead, no flashes, nothing. She ask a couple of more questions, but still nothing. She gives up asking questions and starts on a live EVP session. A live EVP session is where you basically record, ask a question and then rewind to see if you have recorded anything and what it said, then you can further ask more questions and actually have an intelligent conversation. This is a good idea to try, but you'll usually get nothing and spend most of the night, rewinding and playing and not actually recording a voice. I still would want to try this sometime in an area, I knew had EVP activity.

She does get more sporadic light flashes and then turns from doing the live EVP session, to asking them to make her light flash, however, I guess they are just teasing her as she gets no more light flashes for awhile until she starts back doing the live EVP session. This went on about 3 times. During the live EVP, the first 2 questions, we get nothing, but the third she is asking for a name, everybody keeps quiet for 30 seconds, just like everytime, but during the playback this time, you can hear a whisper of Karen, I think. I was audio recording this whole event, too, so I'll definitely have to check to see if I got the EVP too and if I did it will be posted.

During this whole 30 minute event in this room, flashes of cameras was going off everywhere, I took many pictures, too. Supposedly a young boy got a picture of a shadow person, Greg Carpenter, said he seen the picture the boy took and supposedly the shadow person in the picture was behind him and he said they was never nobody behind him. I never seen the pic, though. Hopefully it will get on Patti Starr's website sometime.  I also got the whole thing on videotape, so maybe we got something from that. So we definitely got to go through the evidence to see what we have.

Well anyway we definitely want to get back to Bardstown, to especially hit the Jailer's Inn and The Talbott Tavern and with the Pioneer Cemetery in the backyard of those and it being free to go to, it gets on the list too.  So I'll try to contact either of the 2 Bed & Breakfast Inns and try to do get something arranged soon, probably for the fall when it is cooler.  But I'll hopefully get the evidence posted from this place soon, so be patient, I am back logged a little.
